In this episode of Ultimate Tech Bytes, we dive into the Ring Elite Doorbell to explore whether it's safe, easy to install, and truly worth the high cost. With increasing concerns over digital privacy, along with physical installation challenges, it's more important than ever to understand what you're buying before making the investment.
We answer three important questions about the Ring Elite Doorbell:
In conclusion, unless you're tech-savvy and value the built-in features over ease of setup and affordability, you may want to consider other options. Always research thoroughly before choosing a video doorbell system.
Hi everyone, this is Mike with Ultimate Tech Hub, and welcome to Episode One of Ultimate Tech Bytes. Today, we’re reviewing the Ring Elite Doorbell by addressing three main questions: Is it safe? Is it easy to install? And is it worth the high price tag?
First question: Is the Ring Elite Doorbell safe?
Ring, owned by Amazon, has come under intense scrutiny from both customers and employees due to security and privacy concerns. In fact, Amazon and Ring were sued for negligence, invasion of privacy, breach of implied contract, breach of implied warranty, and unjust enrichment. Simply put, the companies were allegedly aware of flaws in the system’s security.
On January 31st, Ring introduced a Control Center and implemented two-factor authentication to address these concerns. However, some experts—including an Amazon engineer—still argue that Ring should be shut down due to surveillance-related privacy issues. To mitigate risks, users should enable two-factor authentication, update passwords frequently, and ensure that the device is physically secured to prevent theft.
Second question: Is the Ring Elite Doorbell easy to install?
The simple answer is no. This model requires a wired connection, meaning a data cable must connect the doorbell to a PoE injector, typically located near your router inside the house. If you don't already have a data cable in place, you'll need to fish the wire through the wall to reach your desired location. For most homeowners, this means hiring a professional installer—an added cost.
Third question: Is the Ring Elite Doorbell worth the high price?
That depends. If you need to pay for installation, the overall value diminishes significantly. While the Ring Elite offers excellent video quality and numerous features, the combination of privacy concerns, installation complexity, and a high price point make it a hard product to recommend. The smart doorbell market is full of competitive alternatives, so take the time to research and compare options before committing.
